Leacock, Stephen (Butler)
(30 dic. 1869, Swanmore, Hampshire, Inglaterra–28 mar. 1944, Toronto, Ontario, Canadá).

Escritor y conferencista canadiense nacido en Gran Bretaña. Emigró a Canadá con sus padres a los seis años de edad. A pesar de que enseñó economía y ciencias políticas en la Universidad de McGill (1903–36) y escribió exhaustivamente acerca de historia y economía política, su verdadera vocación era el humor. Su fama está cimentada en sus numerosos libros de alegres bosquejos y ensayos, que comenzaron con Literary Lapses [Lapsus literarios] (1910) y Nonsense Novels [Novelas disparatadas] (1911). Su humor se basa en una percepción cómica de las debilidades sociales y de la incongruencia entre la apariencia y la realidad en la conducta humana.
